Portland’s not a good city for people with a fear of bridges; a total of eight crisscross the downtown area. With the devastating earthquake and aftershocks in Japan, officials have started taking another look at the state of our fine city’s bridges, and the results are not good.

Oregon state tries to embrace energy-saving, green-energy alternatives in almost everything it does. From new buildings that recycle human poop to offering individuals discounts for energy-efficient cars and appliances.
Now, with projected costs for the subsidies to reach $290 million this year, the legislature’s looking at the long, hard road in front of it – do they cut the subsidies that are hurting the state budget at a time when other areas need help, or do they continue subsidizing this up-and-coming industry in hopes that the green industry brings much-needed jobs to our beleaguered state?

Portlanders love to rail against the droning masses. Gas-guzzling SUVs? We use bikes. Falling in line with authority? Read our middle finger! Wearing deodorant? Soap’s for wimps and stupid people who want to smell nice!
So, why is it that Portlanders love Apple products?

We enjoy poking fun at Portland’s crazy liberal, unbelievably academic, drug-exploratory little college, Reed, as much as the next inane blog about Portland run by crazy nutjobs, but even this goes a little too far: someone in China has stolen photos from Reed’s website and has created a fake website, presumably to steal money from unsuspecting college applicants.

Portland’s Airport (PDX) was the winner among North American airports for most timeliness departures last year according to FlightStats.com.
We applaud Portland’s Airport – we think they’re swell and truly one of the best airports we’ve visited. That being said, Portland came in first by having only 86.02% of its flights leave on time. The average airport has 75.29% of its flights leave on-time; one in four flights leave late!

Okay, we must admit – seeing U.S. Representative David Wu dressed in a tiger costume threw us back a little, but it also made us think; wouldn’t the world be a little better if all of Congress wore its crazy on the outside?

There are a lot of issues affecting Portland these days – rising unemployment, an overcrowded I-5 bridge, gang crime and smelly coworkers. Fortunately, the city council has gotten together to solve at least one of these issues – the new fragrance-free policy will grant council employees a reprieve from their colleague, Big Bertha, who wore enough of Paris Hilton’s “Just Me” to suffocate several elephants.
