When a city drops ranks on a national list – Best Beer Cities in the U.S., Best Food Cities in America – it’s usually a sign for the city’s citizens and leadership to band together and make a plan for improvement. When we saw Portland drop to third most popular city to move to in the results of the Summer Movers Study, we threw a freakin’ party!
Only Portlanders would be this happy to drop in popularity…
Just when you think Portland has squeezed all the weird out of it that it possibly can, the City of Portland partners with a local rapper known for his love of cats to make a music video for a phone app that allows Portland’s drivers to pay for parking on their smartphone.
However, in keeping with the “Keep Portland Weird” credo, there are some, well, unique social activist groups, and with all the protests in recent days, one kept getting our attention – the Portland Raging Grannies.
When we first learned that George Takei will be serving as the narrator for the Oregon Symphony’s 2017-18 season opening night performance of Aaron Copland’s orchestral tribute to Abraham Lincoln, we were more than a little confused.
Upon further investigation, we’re quite simply blown away. “Oh… myyyy…” indeed!
With Portland embracing its weird culture, it only makes sense that we’d also get some of the weirdest criminals. So, when a woman threw her toddler into a nearby car (the kid’s unharmed, by the way) while running from the police after stealing two leaf blowers, how could we possibly be surprised?
