Portlanders love Amazon Prime and who wouldn’t? A Pacific Northwest-based company (sure, it’s in Seattle, but we won’t hold that against them) that offers free two-day shipping, streaming video and music, and even home delivery within a couple hours for just $99 a year? Where do we sign up?! (actually, click here if you want to start the addiction)
What could make it better? How about delivery of beer and wine in two hours or less?
Portlanders take running very seriously. Just wander the streets of any of Portland’s five (yes, five) quadrants, and you’ll come across runners everywhere. So, when Energy Events cancelled its Vancouver USA Marathon, you can bet Portlanders won’t take such action lying down.
Portland’s coffee scene maintains a huge reputation throughout the country (and the world) for excellent, locally-owned roasters and brewers of some of the best coffee you can drink.
Unfortunately, with success comes opportunity, and outside business interests have started scooping up our local shops, making them parts of their conglomerates (witness the purchase of Stumptown Coffee back in 2011).
Boyd Coffee Company, what might be Portland’s oldest coffee roaster – it was founded in 1900, announced on August 21, 2017 that they will be acquired by Farmer Brothers (NASDAQ: FARM), a publicly-traded firm.
Portland has always been a haven for weird people and weird events whether it’s the infamous Portland postman who pooped on a patio a few years ago, the zombie-filled car that crashed on a freeway, or the extremely popular Portland Saturday Market which attracts crowds of oddities.
Regardless, Stumptown’s an odd burg, and here we’ll talk a bit about why it’s so weird and also where the heck the whole “Keep Portland Weird” phenomenon started in the first place.
